Excellent book for learning techniques of how to paint realistic looking animals on rocks. The book is well written with a table of contents at the beginning and an index at the ending. It is easy to read, user friendly and contains useful info for those who are new to rock painting; however, anyone with lots of experience in painting on rocks, especially animals, might find the info slightly elementary. The step-by step how-to for each animal includes supplies needed, shapes of rocks, and detailed text and clearly defined illustrations. It’s almost like having someone standing by your side telling you what to do next. The step by step instructions show you how to draw a frog, field mouse, penguin, skunk, beaver, squirrel, calf, foal, bear, wild cat and wolf. The instructions guide you through choosing the right rock, and then on to the layer by layer drawing/painting. How-to starts with a base coat, and then on to the layout, fur, details and finishing touches.Super guide for beginners, but also some great guide lines for the self-taught that most likely will prove useful.
